Clelia Donovan, Portuguese Lecturer and Program Coordinator, has been selected as this year's winner of the Division of Arts and Humanities Distinguished Teaching Award. A reception was held on November 16 in the Durant Atrium to honor her accomplishments.

This year marks the 80th anniversary (1936/2016) of the Spanish Civil War.  In addition to ongoing courses in the department, the Berkeley campus is commemorating the war with a series of events (poetry readings, performances, book-talks, library exhibits, etc. Information on upcoming events can be found here.

Last semester (Spring 2016) our Department offered the course "Borges, Buddhism and Cognitive Science". This interdisciplinary and multicultural course gave the students the opportunity to study Borges' work from the triple perspective of art, philosophy and science, as well as to explore the connection between the contents of the course and their own lives.
