This talk concerns a Gallego priest of the Spanish Enlightenment, Juan Antonio Posse.  He had an interesting life both as a rural priest and during Napoleon’s war as a supporter of the Cortes de Cádiz, including pursuit by the Inquisición. He wrote his memoirs, unusual in Spain, which have had their own interesting reception down to the present. Professor Richard Herr published an edition of them in 1984.
