Francine Masiello holds the Sidney and Margaret Ancker Distinguished Professorship in the Humanities (Emerita) at the University of California, Berkeley. With a long career as a Latin Americanist, she has published on topics ranging from avant-garde movements to a representation of the senses across the Global South. The intersections of gender and cultural history inform most of her work. Of her eleven books, three won prizes from the Modern Language Association and the Latin American Studies Association. Masiello has recently completed her first novel, The Tomb of the Divers, a work of historical fiction (Bordighera, forthcoming 2024).
