PARTICIPATION IN COMMENCEMENT
All graduating students in the academic year 2015-2016 may attend this Spring’s Commencement ceremony. This includes all Fall 2015, Spring 2016, and Summer 2016 graduates.
Tickets are not required for you or your guests for the Spanish & Portuguese ceremony and everyone is welcome to attend. Admission to Zellerbach is first come, first seated; doors will open at approximately 1:30pm for your guests. All students participating in the Spanish & Portuguese ceremony should meet in Dwinelle Plaza at 1:30pm. If possible, leave all valuables (purses, back-packs, etc) with family or friends so you don’t have to carry anything with you during the ceremony.
Degree List: If you plan to complete your degree, you must put yourself on the degree list via Tele-Bears. Please review this important information from the College of Letters & Science and make sure to confirm with a College Advisor that you are eligible for graduation: http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/graduation/graduation.html
Honors: Honors in Spanish or Portuguese cannot be granted without the successful completion of the Honors Course, H195A/B. All students graduating with honors in the Spanish & Portuguese Department may purchase Honors Cords to wear at the commencement ceremony. The Gift & Apparel section of the ASUC will have a list of all students in eligible for purchasing an Honors Cord. No distinction is made during the commencement ceremony between honors students and non-honors students. Honors are marked in the commencement program.
CAP AND GOWN RENTAL
Your cap and gown can be purchased at the Grad Fair, which will take place March 31 – April 1, 2016. Or you can visit the Cal Student Store, 2495 Bancroft Way, 510.229.4703. Also, the Educational Opportunity Program has created the “Graduation Gown Lending Project” to support first generation and low income UC Berkeley students with free rental of graduation gowns. DIPLOMA
The Spanish & Portuguese Department does not handle diplomas. The scroll you will receive at the commencement ceremony will commemorate all Commencement exercises of the Departments, Schools, and Colleges of the Berkeley Campus of the University of California. Diplomas are generally available about four months after your graduation date from the Office of the Registrar (120 Sproul Hall, 643-7490), or you can have it mailed to you. For more information, please visit the Office of the Registrar. If you need proof of completing your degree before the Registrar has processed your diploma, you may obtain a Certificate of Completion from them. More information regarding the Certificate of Completion is available on the Registrar’s website.

UNIVERSITY-WIDE SPRING CEREMONY

Graduating seniors can also participate in the University campus-wide commencement ceremony in addition to the departmental ceremony. Please check their website for information about tickets, featured speaker and other important deadlines regarding participation.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Because of fire laws, and for the safety of everyone, we ask that friends and family refrain from leaving their seats and standing in the aisles to take pictures or videos. Students participating in commencement are asked to pre-register with Grad Images so that they can be contacted after the ceremony. All students who have pre-registered with Grad Images will receive their picture proofs via email within 24 hours after the ceremony. This email will contain the student’s PIN number that can be used to access that student’s pictures on Grad Image’s website. Students will also receive a picture proof in the mail 3-5 business days after the commencement ceremony. Students who would like their proof sent to any family members or friends, are welcome to register them.
