Jhonni Carr has been named a Lecturer Teaching Fellow by the Center for Teaching and Learning

September 21, 2023

The Center for Teaching and Learning at UC Berkeley has named our Lecturer in Hispanic Linguistics, Jhonni Carr, a 2023-24 Lecturer Teaching Fellow

As a Lecturer Teaching Fellow, Jhonni will build a repository of pedagogical content related to the linguistic landscape, or the displayed language of a given area as seen in street signs, commercial advertisements, building names, and even graffiti. She looks forward to sharing this resource not only with the broader campus community, but also with colleagues around the world in order to show how urban signage can be used to teach a variety of topics in linguistics (phonetics & phonology, morphology, syntax, variation & change, contact linguistics), anthropology (language attitudes & ideologies, identity studies), education (second language acquisition, critical language awareness), political science (language policy & planning, power dynamics), and translation studies (direction of translation, precision of translation, what gets translated), among other disciplines.

Congratulations, Jhonni!
