Itamar Vieira Jr - Campus Visit March 4th and 5th

Brazilian author Itamar Vieira Jr will be in residence in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese for the first two weeks of March, 2024, as part of the Spanish and Portuguese department’s yearly Brazilian Writer-in-Residence program. Crooked Plow (Torto arado), Itamar Vieira Jr’s first novel, was recently published by Verso Books. It has been translated into twenty-five languages and is one of the most acclaimed and commercially successful Brazilian novels in recent years. Itamar Vieira Jr is a novelist and geographer (PhD in Ethnic and Africana Studies from the Federal University of Bahia). His research and much of his fiction centers in the Recôncavo area of Bahia, considered the center of Afro-Brazilian culture and history.
