Lanzamiento virtual del libro de Rubén Darío y la modernidad en América Latina.

On Friday, July the 3rd, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso’s Colección Dársena will launch Rubén Darío y la modernidad en América Latina. Transitoriedad, comodificación, colonialidad, a collaborative book edited by UCB alum, Professor Mónica González García.

Two interesting characteristics of this volume include the following: Dru Dougherty, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, contributed to the book’s opening chapter, and the book’s prologue was written by the late Cuban poet and theorist Roberto Fernández Retamar—who worked as President of Casa de las Américas until his passing last year. This is, therefore, one of the last editorial projects in which Fernández Retamar participated. The twelve chapters that compose the book seek to grapple with the ways in which the literature of the Nicaraguan poet captured or symptomatized the intense geopolitical and epistemic transformations experienced by Latin America at the turn of the 19th century. Rubén Darío y la modernidad en América Latina was co-published by Fondo Editorial Casa de las Américas (Cuba) and Colección Dársena of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (Chile)—the institutional affiliation of the editor. The book’s launch will feature Chilean, Cuban and Argentine scholars, and will be broadcast live on the Facebook page of the PUCV Institute of Literature and Language Sciences (ILCL) on Friday, July 3 at 7:00 p.m. in Chile, 4:00 p.m. in California.
