Earning Minor Credit Abroad
The Department of Spanish & Portuguese has 3 minor programs: The Languages, Literatures & Cultures of the Spanish-Speaking World, The Languages, Literatures & Cultures of the Portuguese Speaking World, and Hispanic Languages, Linguistics & Bilingualism. Each minor consists of a small number of lower-division prerequisites and 5 upper-division classes. Students pursuing a minor may satisfy lower-division language prerequisites and may take up to 2 upper-division courses while studying abroad.
- Prerequisites:
- Can be completed on or off campus - including abroad
- Spanish 1-4 (Second Language Learners) or,
- Spanish 21-22 (Heritage Speakers of Spanish),
- Portuguese 50 (minor in Portuguese)
- Spanish 25 must completed at Berkeley or through Berkeley Summer Abroad in Puebla, Mexico
- 5 upper-division classes:
- Maximum of 2 upper division classes can be taken abroad
- Taught in Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan (consult with the Undergraduate Advisor before considering a class or program taught in English)
- Related to your area of study
- Taken for a letter grade

Earning Major Credit Abroad
The Department of Spanish & Portuguese offers one major with four concentrations: A) The Languages, Literatures, and Cultures of the Spanish-Speaking World, B) The Languages, Literatures, and Cultures of the Portuguese-Speaking World, C) Latin American Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, D) Hispanic Languages, Linguistics, and Bilingualism. Each concentration consists of a small number of lower division prerequisites and 8 upper division classes. Students pursuing a major in Spanish & Portuguese may satisfy lower-division language prerequisites and may take up to 3 upper-division courses while studying abroad.

- Each concentration requires 3-4 core courses, which must be completed at Berkeley
- Review the core requirements for your concentration and make a plan with the Undergraduate Advisor to complete them on campus
