Lydia Millhon

Lydia Millhon is a Ph.D. candidate in Hispanic Languages and Literatures at UC Berkeley and CLACS Graduate Affiliate with a Designated Emphasis in New Media. At UC Berkeley, she previously worked on the editorial board of Lucero and currently co-organizes the Contemporary Cuban Studies working group. Her research surveys intellectuals and literary practices in Cuba and Brazil, highlighting Black authorship and articulations of race in cultural production. She examines poetry and visual art from the movements of Negrismo to Concretismo in these countries to unveil Afro-diasporic networks of cultural belonging. Throughout years of archival work, her project has been supported by the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami, Florida, the Tinker Foundation, the UC Cuba Academic Initiative, the Rafael Soriano Foundation, the UCB John L. Simpson Pre-Dissertation Research Fellowship in International and Area Studies, and the UCB Graduate Assembly Professional Development Award.
