Spanish 112: Survey of Modern Spanish Culture

This course is designed to provide students with a broad overview of the cultural history of modern Spain (18th-21st centuries). We will examine the major political, economic, social and artistic trends (art, architecture, literature and film) that have characterized modern Spanish culture. The course will also serve as an introduction to the discipline of Cultural Studies. By the end of the course, students should have a solid understanding of the history of modern Spanish culture as well as a broad set of critical frameworks for thinking about, discussing and analyzing cultural production Spanish.
