MTuWTh 12-2pm, Barrows 175 | Instructor: Tanya Varela | CCN: 13268

Units: 3

Session D: 7/3/17 – 8/11/17

This course will focus on the analysis of a selection of Spanish American short stories in light of the literary movements that produced them, starting at the end of the Nineteenth century through the beginning of the new millennium, and placing special emphasis on short stories written by women. Through the exploration of various texts, we will discuss the intersections between race, class, and gender, and the way in which these authors (female and male) inscribe themselves in the political and cultural space that we know as Latin America.
