Sidney and Margaret Ancker Distinguished Professor in the Humanities, Departments of Spanish and Portuguese & Comparative Literature


Undergraduate and Graduate Students completing their degree in Spanish and Portuguese between Fall 2014 and Fall 2015 are invited to participate in the annual joint commencement ceremony for Spanish & Portuguese. Commencement ceremony will be held in conjunction with the departments of Celtic Studies, Classics, Comparative Literature, French, German, and Scandinavian.

Students participating in commencement assemble in Dwinelle Plaza at 1:15.  Undergraduates and graduates must check-in with Mari Mordecai.

Reception immediately following ceremony, ISHI COURT, Dwinelle Hall

NO TICKETS REQUIRED: Tickets are not required for the ceremony or for the reception. There are no restrictions to the number of guests a student may invite. Seating is first come, first served.

Special notice to M.A. and Ph.D. Candidates: If you intend to participate in Commencement this year, please contact Veronica Lopez, Graduate Office, at so that correct information can be included in the commencement program.

REGALIA: Cap and gown sets are available for purchase only through the Special Services Department at the Cal Student Store (642-9000 x681 ) beginning late March, and continuing through May. The charge for B.A. regalia is approximately $50.00; for M.A. regalia it is $99; and for Ph.D. regalia it is $123. Ph.D. candidates who wish to purchase official regalia may do so through the Cal Student Store.

COMMENCEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY: We are pleased to announce that GradImages is the official photographer for this ceremony. Students participating in commencement are asked to pre-register for “University of CA Berkeley Languages” ceremony with GradImages so that they can be contacted after the ceremony. You are not required to purchase the photography, but we highly recommend you pre-register so you may have the option.

DIPLOMAS: Diplomas will be mailed to your home address approximately four months after your official graduation. More information can be found on the Registrar’s webpage
